Sightseeing in Beijing

What a day! I had so much fun seeing Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China. These are places I truly never thought I would get to visit. It was hot today (upper 90's) and it was very, very crowded in these tourist areas as well. I actually climbed a good deal of the great wall (one guard post past the "hero" award section). I probably could have gone further, but I was worried that it would be difficult and exhausting to get back down. That didn't turn out to be the case, but hopefully because I stopped before my legs turned to jello I will still be able to walk tomorrow! I need to get on that plane to Nanjing!

I was amazed at the number of apartment buildings around Beijing. I know there are 15+ million people living here, but you don't think about the reality of the space each person is allowed with that kind of population. There was a car wreck coming back into town and the traffic unbelievable. Lanes are definitely optional here. We were all laughing about it though and taking video and pictures. We were also able to drive by the new Olympic stadiums being built for next summer's games. I'm going to try to purchase some Olympic items tomorrow before heading off to Nanjing. Tomorrow I will be in Alana's province. I am scheduled to get her on Monday afternoon (early, early Monday morning central time). I am getting SO excited!!
