Nanjing Museum

Well, so far today we've gone to the Nanjing museum and shopping for Jade. The museum was very nice, but the kids were pretty bored. We saw displays of brocade, jade, porcelain and many others. I purchased a needlework print that they made there in the museum. There is a picture of Xin Yi and I together with one of the girls who makes them. I completely embarrassed myself while looking at the embroidery pieces though. They have them all framed and lined up on the floor in rows. I accidentally knocked one over which caused quite the domino effect. Luckily nothing broke and we were able to stand all the frames back up again. I am such a klutz!!

Then we went downstairs to a little garden area and took a couple more pictures. After that we went into the jade store. They were very high pressure there and were trying to get me to spend several hundred dollars on jade. I spent a good chunk of change yesterday on pearls, so I figured my jewelry budget was pretty much blown. I did break down and purchase a jade pendant for Alana with a sheep on it (her chinese sign). Tonight I think we are just going shopping at a children's wholesale market, so I probably won't have any more pictures to post. Tomorrow we head out to the orphanage to visit. I ran into someone today from the Jiangyin yahoo group I belong to. She is here with her three daughters (two of them adopted from Jiangyin). She is also visiting the orphanage tomorrow with her daughters, so we may see them there. I'm not sure if they were planning to go to lunch with the director and assistant director or not. After we visit Jiangyin and have lunch, we will head to the Stinnette's orphanage to visit. It is not often that families get to visit one orphanage -- let alone two. Tomorrow will certainly be a very special and emotional day.
